With all these layoffs, I have to say I won't miss the paper's acerbic editorial page editor and blogger, Brad Warthen.
But, while journalists have been analyzing the future of newspapers for the better part of the past decade, these layoffs beg a bigger question--what will be the future of news? Will these shrinking newsrooms, in the process of being swallowed whole by larger, stronger newsrooms, follow the pattern of the banks? Will newsrooms nationalize? Dun, dun, dun...
It's not really that silly of a question, when you think of it. On days like these when one bankrupt corporation after another crumbles, it makes sense that the government might absorb our information.
The more you know...
